Welcome To D.I.R. Consulting D.I.R. Consulting was created as a result of a friend trying to lead a normal life while confined to a wheelchair, and running into barriers everywhere he went. At work, in his apartment, out for an evening, frustrated that he could not move around and have access to everything that we take for granted when we have mobility. I teamed up with a local architect to design a home for him that would be barrier free and give him the freedom to function as normally as possible. All sub contractors working on this home were required to meet with me after the frame in was complete. They were put in a wheelchair and told to manuver around the home and think about what they were going to be installing. Out of this came a group discussion of how everything was going to be accessible. The electricians worked with the cabinet people, to allow room for switches, in the faces of the kitchen cabinets for the hood fan, lights, and disposal. The carpenters installed backing boards in the bath for grab bars. The security people prewired for in the wall speakers and microphones for the 2 way voice controlled security system. The electricians decided I should include a gas back up generator and prewired a switch box for it. I then brought in a friend who was working with a voice recognition system called Butler in a Box. This system works with X-10 controllers for lights, garage doors, electric door locks, and has an infrared remote included to operate the tv, stereo, dvd, and vcr. We then built an X-10 junction box to control the raising and lowering of the hospital bed. After moving into this home and being trained on his Butler in a Box, he could control his tv, stereo in the other room, lights, bed, make phone calls, all by calling the boxes' name and giving it commands. He had freedom and control even after he was bedridden in later years. D.I.R. Consulting was then set up to become an advocate for the physically and mentally challenged. We became a contact company for non profit organizations, looking for information, and donated time and materials from companies. We refurbish and supply used computer systems to these organizations to train their clients in hand, eye coordination, and progressive thinking. We are also involved in the rescue, fostering, and transporting of rescued dogs from shelters and puppy mills. If you are looking for a pet see our links page for rescue organizations to adopt from. Do not buy your dog from a pet store, they buy their dogs from Puppy Mills that keep the dogs in cages and then abandon them when they no longer produce pups. These dogs are usually abused their whole life and never receive any love or real care. |
